STAFF BIOGRAPHIES AND CONTACT INFORMATION
Amy Strite, Executive Director
Amy Strite assumed the role of Executive Director with CHIP of Richmond in July 2007. Formerly working as the site’s Director of Clinical Services and Education, Amy, a licensed Clinical Social Worker, received a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Since then, she has provided both clinical and administrative services to a broad variety of people and organizations including homeless individuals and families, court affiliated adolescents, and the HIV/AIDS population. Prior to her current appointment, Amy’s focus was in the areas of strengthening families and the prevention of child abuse and neglect while serving as the Associate Director at Sacred Heart Center followed by her service as Associate Director of Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now). She also served as Vice President of Early Childhood and Family Development at Family Lifeline, an Organization dedicated to strengthening families in Greater Richmond and the Tri-Cities Area.
With such a notable background, Amy provides leadership, direction, and support to the CHIP program and staff, specifically in the areas of early childhood and family development. To support this effort, she is responsible for the development and administration of a $1.5 million budget. Additionally, Amy works extensively with those in the private and public sector in collaborative effort to assess current and changing need, evaluate the effectiveness of service delivery, and plan for appropriate responses to community need.
A part from her professional positions, Amy has served the community in a variety of ways including sitting on the boards of The NAMES Project Central Virginia, Virginia Supportive Housing, and The National Association of Social Workers-Virginia Chapter. Amy is also an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
Amanda
Abate, Director of Development
Amanda Abate began her tenure as Director
of Development with CHIP in September 2004. She
comes to the organization with a variety of experience - most
recently from Caring Congregations, Inc. - a parish nurse
and health ministry. Her experience in development ranges
from The Salvation Army to the Richmond Kickers. Amanda
came on board to help strengthen the development program and
build a solid annual fund. Her duties include grant writing,
corporate solicitation and individual donor cultivation.
Amanda received a B. A. from the University
of Richmond and has been working in the nonprofit community
since 1998. In her spare time Amanda enjoys running, reading
and serving as slave and master to her English Springer Spaniel
Rosemary.
Barbara F. Brown, Finance Director
Barbara F. Brown joined CHIP of Greater Richmond in July 2007 as the Finance Director. With a B.A. in Accounting from Queens College - CUNY and Post-Graduate work from Adelphi University, Barbara has an extensive knowledge of finance, accounting and human resource management. Following graduation, Brown undertook a Financial Analyst position with J.P. Morgan / Chase, Inc. in New York City where she made operating cost reduction recommendations for the Gold Trading Division with $25 million in annual revenues. She later became a Budget Analyst of the human resources division in the corporate offices.
Prior to her tenure with CHIP, Barbara Brown served as Financial Manager for The Visual Arts Center of Richmond (formerly The Hand Workshop Arts Center) working again in a financial management capacity handling all aspects of daily operations for the center, including finance, accounting, budget preparations and contract negotiations. She has also occupied accounting positions with Marcigliano & Campise Attorneys at Law and Griffith and Tekushan, Inc. based in New York City.
